Since the inception of Heritage Fellowship Church in 1997, we’ve carried a vision for a ministry training school in which future leaders could be equipped and released into a diversity of ministries, both locally and internationally.
Heritage has received the following prophetic challenge: “Will you believe me for a million souls?” The leadership and congregation have, through the years, responded with a resounding “yes” to that question!
At the same time that this vision was forming at Heritage, Greg and Debby Wiley, career missionaries and trainers, relocated from 34 years of ministry in India and Europe, to settle in East Tennessee. They also had a similar passion to develop a nations-focused ministry training program which would flow out of the life of the local church. The Wileys met Pastor Jim & Peggy Price the first year they were stateside, and they began to dream together about a ministry school to serve the Lakeway area that fulfilled their shared vision!
After much prayer and planning, Destiny School of Ministry was birthed in January 2011, becoming a strategic step towards the fulfillment of the million souls vision. To date, DSM has run 6 local schools in the Lakeway area. We have also created shorter local DSM programs for visiting international leaders, and have hosted two intensive DSMs for two weeks each, following our yearly Overflow conference.
As the Wiley’s passion for serving leaders in developing nations expanded, they began to dream about taking DSM out into some of the least served nations of the world. After a teaching trip to Kenya in 2013, vision began to clarify regarding bringing some of the core teaching and values of DSM to Africa and beyond. At the same time, Pastor Jim Price received a word from the Lord regarding DSM. That word came in the form of the phrase “5x5x5”. We were to conduct 5 DSMs in 5 nations over 5 years! This was the confirmation we were asking for, to take our training out to the nations.
The first international DSM was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2014, with 80+ pastors and leaders attending. Out of that first school, an invitation emerged to bring DSM to Uganda, which was fulfilled in the summer of 2015. The Uganda school served over 230 pastors and leaders, several of which had attended the Kenya school and brought their fellow leaders to experience DSM. Then in 2019, we were invited to bring DSM to 130+ Bishops, Leaders & Pastors in Mariakani, Kenya for a 5-day school.
In total, DSM has trained and equipped over 650 leaders and students.
